Today's high school students are a part of what is considered one of the loneliest generations in history. What difference would it make if students found their fit and committed themselves to their communities early in their high school experience?
Key Leader teaches service leadership and social-emotional skills essential for students to become values-driven leaders. Based on Robert Greenleaf's "servant leadership" model, and delivered to more than 33,000 students around the world since 2005, Key Leader is an essential program to break down the isolation students face in the era of smartphones.
The Key Leader curriculum emphasizes:
Our curriculum is led by certified, professional lead facilitators, and focuses on 9th and 10th grade students. Older students serve as student facilitators for small group sessions and spring programs are open to graduating 8th grade students. Participants learn to identify their values, set SMART goals, and find their fit within their local and high school communities — all of which are essential to positive social-emotional development. Continued year-round engagement is possible through Key Club, the oldest and largest student-led community service organization for high school students.
The cost for students is $200 if registered and paid in full by October 1, 2024, and $225 after.

Frequently it is the teachers and school councilors who recognize the students who can most benefit from Key Leader. Download our Educator flyer below.
Key Leader is Kiwanis International's leadership education program for students ages 14-18. The Key Leader mission is to provide a life-changing experience that inspires young people to achieve their personal best through service leadership. This youth leadership program is gold-seal sanctioned by the National Association of Secondary School Principals and the United States Army.
Key Leader is open to ALL students ages 14 to 18. Participants are NOT required to be members of a Kiwanis service leadership program (like Builder's Club or Key Club). There is no limit on the number of participants from the same school; however, space is limited with registration capped at 60 participants.
Yes! In fact, students who have attended a Key Leader event previously may apply to be student facilitators. Student facilitator spots are limited, so if a student is not able to participate as a student facilitator, they are still welcome to attend Key Leader again.
Absolutely! Doing so may change a life! You can sponsor a student's registration in whole or in part. See the "Sponsor" section below for more details.
A professional Key Leader facilitator will lead the event. This facilitator brings to the program excellent experience working with young people and has successfully completed a nationally recognized training course on the curriculum.
In addition to our lead facilitator, Kiwanis provides trained adult volunteers to coordinate the logistics and supervise students. Kiwanis requires a comprehensive background check for all of the adults who will be present for the weekend.
Kamp Kiwanis will be hosting Key Leader 2023. Kamp Kiwanis, is located 20-miles South of Gallup, New Mexico. Kamp Kiwanis is 5 1/2 hours from Phoenix, 6 1/2 hours from El Paso, and just under 3-hours from Albuquerque.
